Pros: -Effective oil minimizer
-Keeps face hydrated
-Missing an SPF
Somewhere around 16 I started searching for that perfect skincare routine that would give me the best results possible for my fair, freckled and oily skin. For a long time I was dehydrating my face because of its oil factor, until my sister who's a very successful makeup artist told me that to combat oil, you need to keep your skin clean and hydrated. The hydration part seemed so counter intuitive to me! I was recommended Clinque's Moisture Surge by a friend a couple years ago and I haven't looked back since. It's water-based and has a really unique texture that is more of a gel than a cream(as most moistureizers tend to be). It truly is a cureall for people with oil problems! I break out less and have noticed when adding an exfoliator a couple time a week, my mores really have reduced in size.
Texture/Consistency: Moisture Surge is really unlike any moistureizer I've ever purchased. It's a beautiful shade of tickled pink, and is a water-based gel that is extremely smooth and light. The product is almost like a whipped gel and has a glossy sheen to it; and as with a gel-like substances it is considerably thinner than most moistureizers.
Weight on Skin: With some skincare products, you can really feel them sink into yout skin and weigh it down. This Moisture Surge is incredibly light weight and you can almost feel your pores being able to breathe after application. At first its startling how different it feels on the skin compared to conventional moistureizers, but its something you learn to love because you know that's part of its magic! This said, it is missing an SPF which is important to everyone, but to me in particular because I have such fair skin and burn so easily. However, adding an SPF would make is heavier and subtract from what I think is a great selling point-- oil-free and lightweight.
Packaging/Product duration: I have always been underwhelmed with Clinique's packaging. Compared some other cosmetic lines they really fall short in my opinion. It's a little boring and bland but it's classically Clinique. Moisture Surge comes in two sizes, 1.7 oz and 2.5 oz.. I typically buy the larger one, and although its spendy for moistureizer it lasts such a long time because just a large pea-sized dab of Moisture Surge will fully hydrate your entire face.
Oil Minimization/Hydration Maximization Factor: I really feel like this product is helpful in the minimization of oil production. I used to get extremely oily on my nose, as well as cheeks and after using this product for so long now I no longer even carry compressed powder in my purse for fight off that afternoon sheen. I think this is because it is so effective at retaining your skin's natural moisture because its water-based, so your pores are not over compensating by making more oil than necessary and thus clogging your pores even more.
Price: As with most department store products, this product is going to be a little pricer than something you would pick up at Target but to me it is money well spent. I suffered through years of moderate acne as a teenager and young adult and nothing has ebbed its onslaught like Moisture Surge has. I usually pay around $50 for the 2.5oz jar, but it lasts for a long time since a minimal amount of product will produce maximal results.
