Pros: No litterbox smell!!!!!
Self-cleaning and drying!
Cons: Kinda pricy
Litter gets everywhere
Remembering to order the cleaner cartridge before the old one runs out
We have owned our Cat Genie for several years and overall it is wonderful. Simply described it is a self-cleaning litterbox. With most automatic litterboxes you still have to empty a plastic recepticle...and how many times have you tried to do that. The litter gets everywhere and if the box snaps or you forget to empty the container...well, lets just say it is bad. Works great for times you are going out of town for a weekend and none of your friends are home to help take care of your animals.
You can set your Cat Genie to run 1-4 times a day or just press start when it needs run. The bowl the litter is in spins and the scoop drops down. It scoops up all the clumps and dumps them in the back. Then the water/cleaner starts spraying and the scoop comes back out to stir the litter and ensure it is all getting cleaned. The dirty water then drains out and grinds up the clumps and washes them out the hose. Once all the water is drained out the dryer comes on and the scoop continues to stir the litter for about 20 minutes to dry all the litter.
No more having my kids fight over who has to clean the litter box. No more litterbox smell. We have ours hooked up in the laundry room so it goes out with the rest of the dirty water so we don't have to make sure to flush the toilet after each run.
There are a few cons. The cost of the unit is kind of high but I found it worth it. The litter and cleaner cost a bit more than cat litter but last longer too. The litter does get everywhere (I haven't found anything that prevents this) but we keep it in an area that is easy to sweep up and put back. When it does backup...it's bad but we have only had that happen a few times.
