Pros: No scooping, no odors. Less expense than anticipated. Litter box is sanitized every day.
Cons: A bit more expensive than box and litter. Need a drain and water supply nearby.
I've had my Cat Genie for 2 years, operating continually, for 2 large cats. The machine has done a wonderful job of eliminating cat-box odors, being low maintenance, and easy to use. We permanently plumbed ours to the drain and water supply, and outside of occasional maintenance, it's just wonderful to never scoop litter. We have ours set on "Auto" which means that the photo eye activates the cleaning cycles (several settings are possible to accommodate 1-4 cats). It uses less products (sanitizer solution and granules) than the company estimates, so that was a pleasant surprise to our budget.
The biodegradable granules do sometimes track out of the box just like other litter, but these are much larger granules so you can see them easier, making cleaning much easier and effecient. I added a rubber litter box mat and that helps a lot towards prevention of tracking.
Maintenance includes running a special wash program 4 times a year, and occasionally washing off the water sensor. Some of this depends on your water hardness. The machine indicates when there is a problem, and the manual provides good and easy directions.
The supplies are easily ordered through the company, some pet stores or EBay. Orders from the company arrive very fast, and their customer service is available by phone or email. There is some assembly required and a basic mechanical aptitude is helpful, but it is not complicated and The Cat Genie comes with a nice, easy to read, ...and with lots of photos, manual.
Overall, I have been very pleased and delighted to have two years of use go by without needing to replace or repair anything outside of the consumable products. And when we travel, finding someone to check on the cats is really easy as there is no scooping! Happy cats, happy owners, happy household!
